We’ve launched! Finally! It has taken us a while and we have battled the odd technical issue (Natalie’s wifi and Emma’s microphone mainly….) but we are here.
The aim of our podcast, and this Substack, is to try and help demystify some of the beauty myths and trends, answer some of your questions, and allow us to tell you about products we’ve found that we love and think genuinely work. Our backgrounds as make up artists and beauty editors gives us a unique view point as we work on different faces and skin types every day and have the joy of trialling new products, so you don’t have to.
You can listen to us here but if you’ve lost your AirPods, like Emma, or just prefer to read then please see below.
Product of the Week

Nathalie finds it hard to pick just one product and has mentioned two from the clever souls at Indeed Labs. Apart from their Nanoblur Primer; the Bakuchiol Reface Pads are her current favourite exfoliator. They contain AHA’s to help resurface your skin incredibly gently and are a brilliant alternative to a retinol for the same effect.
Emma is a mascara obsessive. Her pale eye lashes (anaemic rabbit eyes) means that she currently has 4 or 5 mascara’s in her make up bag. But her personal favourite is Maybelline Volume Express Colossal Curl Bounce Mascara. It’s inky black and always the right texture. It is also smudge resistant and whilst it claims to be 24 hour wear, we have not tested that aspect, but it certainly stays put throughout the day.
We also discussed eye lash curlers. It’s a love hate relationship to be honest and a lot of people are scared of them and trapping anyone’s eye lid in them is a fear most make up artists have. But we do love Lash Star Heated Lash Curler for an easier and less stressful way to give your lashes a little oomph.
Fashion or Fiction

This week we talk about Underpainting. It’s all over TikTok and my suggestions on Instagram. It is effectively just contouring your face before you use a foundation. Some people take it further and add bronzer and blush before they do their base also. We don’t feel like it’s a thing really, it’s just possibly reinventing the wheel of make up and most make up artists start sculpting their clients faces with multiple shades of base anyway. It will all depend on how well you blend and the textures of your products as to how well this will turn out on your face. If you are going to attempt this we suggest that you use Victoria Beckham Contour Stylus as they are possibly perfect in every way.
Question of the Week
“Do I need to use an eye cream? If so, which one is best?”

The advice my mother gave me when I was 17 was to use an eye cream and I’d thank her when I was 40. She wasn’t wrong. The eye area is very delicate and does require different types of products to your face moisturiers’s. Nathalie loves Hydropeptide Eye Authority , when she remembers to use an eye cream. Emma is obsessed with Murad Vita-C Eye Cream that brightens and helps rectify the dark circle issue that we often have. Nat also has a device, we all love a device, but the PeepClub Heated Eye Wand is her favourite de-stresser at the moment.
